A winter’s wedding at The Shack Revolution - Freya & Iestyn!

As I write this, the weather outside is 32 degrees Celsius! And yes, i’m still in Wales!

So you might be thinking, why the hell am I writing about a winder wedding on a beautiful summer’s day like today. Well, I like to be helpful y’know! And if you’re getting married during the summer months, chances are you are either - inundated with all the current inspiration out there, all sorted and ready for your day or your day is a year or so away and it’s not in your peripherals right now.

BUT! If you’re getting married in the autumn/winter months, this is the PRIME time for planning and inspo! SO my dudes - this most is for YOU!

Let’s set this crisp autumnal scene - it’s November in Hereford, the trees are deep and golden hues and the sun is giving that soft beautiful light literally alllll day! And it’s Freya & Iestyn’s wedding day - YAY!

These two booked me WAY back, and ever since their Christmas engagement session at Cardiff’s winter wonderland I was smitten! Their energy, sense of humour and their sense of what’s important really spoke to me and I knew their wedding was going to be incredible even before they had all the components together - but anyway I digress! The pair got ready in a cute airbnb just on the outskirts of Hereford, quiet, scenic and lots of rustic autumnal charm that was inkeeping with their details (even the crocs!)

Once suited and booted the rest of the day was held at one of my all time fave venues The Shack Revolution! The perfect place for them to bring together all their own unique details and ideas. Their good friend conducted the ceremony, with shots exchanged instead of rings and personal readings.

The after party was all about sweet treats! The candy floss coloured confetti (a f*ck load of it might I add), the cookies, sweetie jars, firepits and s’mores - it really was just all about being super cosy and content! Another reason I love the shack, they just do wintery weddings so well, as all guests took their seats to dine out on pizza the fairy lights and cosy atmosphere offered the perfect lighting to take us through speeches and onto the dance floor. And wintery weddings (almost) ALWAYS have the best dance floors!!

SO! Let’s have a cheeky review of the top tips for a wintery wedding - Freya & Iestyn style!:

  • Choose super cosy venues that keep you comfy, cosy and offer plenty of wet weather photo ops!

  • Choose some sensible footwear (Crocs, Docs, sneakers - all super cute options)

  • Embrace the winter and include elements to warm the cockles and make you feel festive! Fairly lights add so much atmosphere where as fire pits and s’mores allow your guests to keep warm whilst exploring outside. Bonus suggestions would be blankets.

  • Don’t be afraid of colour! The sky might be grey but all the more reason to indulge in those rich autumn/winter colours & textures - they can really pop at this time of year. (Check out F&I’s awesome banner!)

  • Get creative with your food, winter is the time for really chowing down! Pies, pizzas, cakes, treats - give your guests super sweet eatzz!

  • Remember low light - chances are it will be dark by the time you’ve finished your wedding breakfast. Make sure you’ve planned in all your important photos with your photographer before then OR have some fun and play around with some night time portraits as well like we did!

All in all - I think winter weddings are just as awesome as the summer (maybe more if you plan it right! 😉)
