ICONIC! One of my favourite days - K&A’s colourful fiesta wedding at The Sheepshed!
Every now and again i’ll photograph a wedding that I know is just going to stick with me in my soul forever. Now, we don’t choose favourites here - y’all my faves for sure but sometimes there are just certain days that create magic! For me, Kelly & Alex’s day was one of them!
Maybe it was the colours or the D.I.Y aspects, maybe it was the energy and the guests or maybe it was everything stirred into a big ol’ pot together. Either way, it was SERVING!
I met this gorgeous pair in a most unremarkable way, they came through my inbox like most folks but as soon as we started speaking I knew we were a match made in heaven. This was only cemented further when I met them all (kids included) in person for their pre-wedding photos at their barber shop in Hereford where we replicated cringy 80s ‘JC Penny’ poses and messed around on e-bikes in the carpark in the sunshine. What’s not to love already?!
On the day the drive up to the sheepshed was obviously SO worth it! The guys had worked so hard on the run up, making and arranging all their own colourful DIY decor including flowers, photo collages, flags, a f*ck load of ribbons and even a mini tiki bar for the boys to serve mocktails for guests (too cute right?!)
One of my favourite things about the day is how stress-free and relaxed it all felt (Alex might say different, but that’s how it felt to me). Everyone got ready together, the boys built some lego, “if it rains, it rains” and “what will be, will be” certainly was the vibe of the morning. With loads of time to spare, Kelly & Al decided to do some couples photos ahead of the ceremony to make time for fun and games later. So after a brief frolicking in the hills overlooking their venue we joined their gathering guests.
Their ceremony of course - was awesome! Celebrant led by a friend of theirs including lots of great, personal stories and sign alongs - it really set the mood for the rest of the day and the sun even made an appearance for the confetti tunnel, perfect!
This fun filled, festival vibe radiated through the rest of the day with plenty of free flowing beer, sweet treats such as icecream & cotton candy and finally into the evening where the live music added that final festival must-have element!
I think what really makes a wedding stand out to me is when it feels like it has it’s own heart and soul. Every element of this day had K&A stamped all over it, every attention to detail, the inclusion of their kids and how comfortable all their guests clearly felt. Everyone was given a part to play and everyone was 100% in and it felt amazing!
